Hills said Fred...
3 weeks today and the LFCC road trip to the Lakes will be over, the "Fred not Fred" challenge will have been completed, the hills attacked and defeated (hopeful thinking), the 110 miles mastered... And the stories of the horrors of the "Hardknott" told over a beer (or two)...
Many are throwing themselves into a training regime, big hills, big mileage... Be under no illusion, the training is essential to compete such an epic ride, however just as essential is the will power, not watts power to complete this ride, each hill gets tougher, steeper the further into the ride you get. At 30% it's the will not watt power that gets you over!
Here's looking forward to a great ride, day, with a bunch of great club mates...

Not Fred Prep...
With 5 weeks to go to the Leicester Forest CC "Not Fred, Fred Whitton" ride (that's in the Lake District), hill training has begun in earnest. First big "hilly ride took place on Easter Monday, a trip to the Peak District up and over some of the best hills it has on offer...

Charnwood Torture has also been completed at a slightly faster pace than the "Not Fred" will be...
Will any of this prepare me or the other riders for what we will be riding in the Lake District, probably not! 112 miles and almost 4000 metres of climbing some of the longest and steepest hill in Britain, Hardknott and Wrynose to be ascended after 90+ miles, according to Simon Warren, author of 100 Great Climbs, the "King & Queen" of British climbs...
